Chinaisa Accuses The Eu Of Excessive Protection Of Hot-rolled Stainless Steel Tariffs
According to reports, the China Iron and Steel Association said last week that the European Commission recently imposed excessive temporary anti-dumping duties on some Chinese stainless steel products.
According to the China Steel Association, the EU ’s current steel import protection measures cover hot-rolled stainless steel, and China has thus obtained a legal replacement for exporting the product to the EU, so this new anti-dumping duty may be an act of excessive protection.
The EU has formally started implementing steel import safeguards since 2019. Under this framework, the EU determines the steel export destinations of the corresponding countries to Europe based on the average annual export volume of some countries from 2015 to 2017.
The European Commission adjusted the above-mentioned import safeguard measures in September last year to “improve the operation mechanism of some products including the inside of the hot rolling spindle”.
On April 8, 2020, the European Commission issued an announcement to make an affirmative preliminary decision on certain anti-dumping decisions on certain hot-rolled stainless steel pipe and fittings products (including certain hot-rolled stainless steel sheets and coils) originating in China, Taiwan and other regions A temporary anti-dumping duty of 6 months will be levied on the enterprises involved from the day after this announcement is published in the official gazette.
Some Chinese companies will therefore face 14.5% -18.9% anti-dumping duties, including several subsidiaries of stainless steel giant Tsingshan Group and Taiyuan Iron and Steel (Group).
